Wheelchair-Accessible Voting Trips in King County: A 2026 Guide

Choose the destination around what you need: a ballot drop box for returning a completed ballot, or a vote center for staff assistance and accessible voting equipment. Confirm the date, hours, entrance, and return ride before booking.

A short trip to return a ballot and a visit to use accessible voting equipment can look similar on a map. They need different plans once you arrive. Choosing the right destination first helps you arrange a wheelchair ride with enough time and the right assistance.

This guide covers transportation planning for King County's November 3, 2026 General Election. Use the county's current information when booking, especially if you need staff assistance, a replacement ballot, or an accessible voting unit.

Choose the service you need before choosing the address

If your ballot is complete and you want to return it in person, use the county's official ballot drop-box directory. If you need assistance completing your ballot or help with registration, check the vote-center information instead.

King County's accessible voting page says vote centers have accessible voting units, including audio, large-print ballots, and other assistive tools. It also lists accessible voting events at community locations. Ask elections staff which option fits the assistance you want.

Travel is one option. The county also accepts ballots by mail without a stamp. Its ballot-return guidance says mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, and USPS recommends mailing at least a week beforehand. Review that option if it works for you.

Match the ride to election-service hours

Check the date-specific schedule for your chosen vote center or accessible voting event. A library or city hall may be open when election services are unavailable. Save the location name, room or entrance instructions, and the hours for the day you intend to visit.

For this election, the county's October 2026 advisory confirms that official drop boxes close at 8:00 p.m. on November 3, 2026. Treat that as the deadline for returning the ballot, not the time to begin the ride.

Allow for boarding, traffic, reaching the entrance, and any waiting at the destination. Tell the transportation provider when you need to arrive and ask what pickup time it can confirm. If your schedule permits, choosing an earlier visit leaves more time to resolve an access or paperwork question.

Check the route from the van to the service

Before booking, ask about the actual path you will use. A street address alone may not identify the accessible entrance or a suitable place for the vehicle to stop. Work through these details with elections staff or the venue and your operator:

  • Which entrance leads to election services without steps?
  • Is an elevator needed, and where does it let you out?
  • Where can the assigned vehicle unload without blocking a ramp or access aisle?
  • Who will assist between the vehicle and the correct room?
  • Where can you wait for the ride home?

For a drop-box visit, discuss how you will reach and use the box from the agreed stopping point. Do not assume the driver can pull directly alongside it. Our door-to-door assistance guide can help make each person's role clear.

Arrange voting assistance separately from the ride

Tell elections staff what equipment, communication method, or assistance would help. The county lists 206-296-8683 and TTY Relay 711 for accessible voting questions. Confirm any companion arrangements and what you should bring directly with the elections office.

Information needs to be usable before the trip too. USAGov's blog on accessible voting information describes its work on keyboard navigation, screen readers, and readable content. If a location map or online instruction is difficult to use, ask the county to help clarify the details you need.

Give the transportation operator the wheelchair, companion-seat, and assistance details relevant to travel. Resolve ballot and registration questions with elections staff so the ride confirmation and voting arrangements are both clear.

Leave room for the visit and the ride home

Ask how the return booking works if you spend longer than expected at the vote center. Confirm the contact number, meeting point, waiting terms, and any cost for changing pickup. Arrange a sheltered waiting plan using our Seattle wet-weather ride guide.

Save one trip note: destination, election-service hours, accessible entrance, requested help, arrival target, and return contact. Add those details to our first-ride checklist and recheck the county's current information before departure.
